2022
The Arts Afield group meets several times a month from April to November. I joined in as much as possible between painting trips.

'August's End' Process
We set up near the castle, looking west.
I was attracted to the line of five trees on the ridge, below Pikes Peak.

I placed the trees in the lower middle third on my thumbnail sketch.

Then I toned the panel and drew the shapes with colored pencil, working to make them more interesting and varied.

I started painting at the top with the sky, to capture the puffy clouds, and to establish the lightest value.

I worked my way down, increasing the warmth and saturation of the colors as they become closer, and made the shapes larger.

I gave the plants in the foreground more definition, texture, and harder edges.
The finished painting.
