Silverton

'Tower Mountain'
'Tower Mountain'

We camped in Silverton in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

Silverton is in southwestern Colorado, between Ouray and Durango.  The Million Dollar Highway is the route we take - a beautiful drive that goes south from Ouray, over Red Mountain Pass, then descends into the town.  Silverton started as a mining town in 1874. Today, it's a great base camp for exploring the back roads in Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs).
The town is quiet in the morning until the train whistle echos in the valley. Puffs of smoke appear as the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train chugs into town. Passengers flood out of the cars for lunch, exploring, and shopping.
