Westcliffe & Twin Lakes

Horn Peak at Westcliffe
Horn Peak at Westcliffe

Westcliffe

We stayed at Grape Creek RV Park for the fifth time.

I tried a different method to layout 'Horn Peak'.  This time I started with a toned panel, and sketched with colored pencil.

I reinforced the lines with a small acrylic pen, concentrating on making interesting and varied shapes.

I used a larger acrylic pen to define the most important lines, and the darkest areas.

Then I painted with a palette knife, starting at the top and working my way down.

Twin Lakes

We stayed at White Star Campground.

This was our first time camping without any hookups for an extended time.  We were happy to learn that our solar panel on the roof worked well - fully charging our batteries during the day.

I did two paintings at Deception Point fishing area.

The first morning I faced east.  Trees, bushes and flowers were my subjects.

I started with an un-toned white panel and brushed thinned paint for the sketch.

I painted the rest with a palette knife.

The next morning, my subject was Twin Peaks. The lake was quiet and still.
