Painting in 2020

'Up Close'
Everything became a challenge in 2020, and painting was no exception.
February 2020
Things were still normal, and I went out to paint on a warm day after a snow.
I painted by the side of the road, which was quiet, with bicycles occasionally gliding by.
This one seemed to paint itself, and an hour later I was done.

April 2020
Steve and I stayed home while work was paused. He wrote songs in his studio and I painted.
Steve decided to let his hair and beard grow until the pandemic ended.
He asked me to paint his portrait as a CD cover for his latest collection of songs.
He sat in my studio and we listened to music while I painted.
When I was done, he said "That's me!" - it was the best complement a portrait painter can get.

September 2020
We were ready to get out in the fresh air and explore again.
Reports said that there wouldn't be much fall color in 2020, but we went anyway.
We stayed at Redstone Campground two nights, then Silverton four nights.
The fall color was the most beautiful we'd ever seen.
We planned to Stay at Jumbo Campground on Grand Mesa for one night, but the color was so intense that we stayed for an extra night. We've never seen so much red in the aspen before.
I painted this the morning before we headed home, at a picnic area across from our campsite.

Back home, the leaves started changing a few weeks later.
