Steamboat Art Museum Plein Air 2023

September 2023
Showcasing the beauty of the Yampa Valley, the art that is created during this extraordinary week spotlights historic landmarks, ranches, the landscape, the community of Steamboat Springs and our growing arts and cultural offerings.
I joined 50 artists painting on location. The Steamboart Art Museum staff did a wonderful job arranging places for us to paint, and events during the week to show our work to collectors. I was excited to sell all of my paintings at these events, and all to people who live in the area. And very honored to have my painting “Aspen Shadows” was selected for First Prize in the Open Division!

"Holly uses a lot of thick paint. But she also doesn't totally mix it before she applies it to the canvas. And what that does is takes a painting that looks interesting across the room, then when you get closer to it and you see all that marbleized paint, it just makes it that much more compelling.
So that's something I've heard called eye candy. You want a painting to look good from across the room but you also want it to keep people's interest when they walk up closer to it, and her work does that beautifully."
