Zion & Dead Horse Point

'Cutting Through'
'Cutting Through'

June 2022

We started our summer travels in Utah with oranges and blues.  I painted at Zion National Park and Dead Horse Point.  We enjoyed hikes and drives, exploring interesting rock formations, canyons, and rivers.

Watchman Campground

We had a view of Watchman Peak out our back window!

I painted at our campsite in the morning two days in a row, when it was cool, and the light was good.

Dead Horse Point State Park

About halfway from Zion to home.  The Colorado River has carved out the rock into a canyon over time, on its way to the Grand Canyon.  Gooseneck Bend is especially picturesque.

Dead Horse Point

I painted at the point two consecutive mornings.

The first day was overcast. The colors were saturated, and the river was reflective.

The second day was sunny. There was more contrast, and the river was blue in the morning.

Nice artwork. Great pics. They bring back many happy memories of my visit to Moab, and the surrounding area, back in 2019. I am planning to return. I live in the UK, and the last few years put an end to my frequent trips to the US. I always make a point of visiting state and national parks, we have nothing like them in the UK. Your post has made my mouth water to plan a return trip to Moab. The are is beautiful, and even though I stayed a week last time, I think I need a whole year to visit everything. In fact, one year is probably not enough to investigate everything in a single park. Now I wish I lived in Utah, visiting will never be enough. :)

Keith - Thank you for your kind words! We truly enjoyed our trip to Utah and plan to return again, to explore more places. Utah has a wonderful energy, and the colors are so vibrant and different from Colorado. We're fortunate to live so close. I'm glad you enjoyed my blog - it was fun to put together. Your website is full of great info about State and National Parks - I've bookmarked it for future reference.
