I Only Have Eyes for You
May 2014

Spring storms turned the small trickle of a stream behind our house into a raging river.

Hail shredded water lily leaves in our garden pond, and suddenly it was populated with frogs! They must have been living along the stream, and hopped up the hill into our yard, to avoid being carried away. When I got near our garden pond, I would hear them plopping into the water. I sat still in my chair, and they came back out and let me take their picture. I saw around 10-15 at one time.

One even came up to our patio door to check us out.

They seemed happy in our pond, and stayed around for several years.

They were all a little different, and I enjoyed looking at their eyes. I wanted to paint a portrait, but they wouldn't be still long enough, so I used this photo for reference.
My husband came up with a wonderful name for the painting.

Leomyka Gallery in Leadville, CO sold it to a woman wanted it for her autistic son. I hope they're still enjoying it!
